Exploring Architecture and Urban Design
Architecture is more than just designing buildings; it’s about shaping spaces that people live in and interact with daily. In this workshop, children will explore architecture as a blend of art, design, and function, gaining a hands-on understanding of how to create spaces that are both beautiful and meaningful. Working with models, sketches, and discussing ideas develops creative thinking, spatial imagination, and teamwork.
"Architecture is a small slice of art you can live in."

Frank Gehry

What will we do during the workshop?
In our classes, we will get acquainted with the basics of architecture and design. Together with the children, we will learn how to analyze interior and exterior spaces, paying attention to key elements such as light, shape, and scale. We will practice developing concepts and creating models that will help us better understand how buildings and the surrounding environment affect our perception.

In each class, we will try out a variety of creative tasks: from making sketches to making models of buildings and their surroundings. We will conclude the course by creating a project to improve the school building and its surroundings, which will be presented at the final exhibition.

SELECTED PROJECTS:
Hard connected - construction workshop - redesigning former schoolyard

Year: 2023

Location: Hard, Austria

Recognition: Finalist of the international architectural competition “Tactical Urbanism now! III”

As part of HARD VERBUNDEN/HARD CONNECTED, a former schoolyard is transformed into a beacon for climate adaptation. Tactical measures are put to use in order to enhance its climate resilience, inclusion and attractiveness. Until now, 98% of the 1650m² square was sealed with asphalt with a single tree providing shade. By means of short-term and participatory interventions, the project aims to set in motion a sustainable transformation of the schoolyard and beyond.

Revitalization of art school in Trakai

Year: 2024

Location: Trakai, Lithuania

This revitalization project transforms an existing educational facility by separating the art and music schools into distinct wings. The new addition will accommodate the art school, while the refurbished older structure will house the music school. The ground floor includes public spaces like an exhibition hall and concert venue, with a separate workshop area accessible to all. The design, inspired by traditional Karaimu houses and utilizing deconstructivism, integrates these functions under one roof while enhancing visual connections to the water and preserving the historical facade. A glass wall replaces part of the old facade, blending historical preservation with modern functionality and aligning the entrance with the restored street and lake.

Salmon Center in Ure

Year: 2023

Location: Ure, Norway

The Salmon Center in Ure is a distinctive fish museum under development in Norway. The design, inspired by traditional Norwegian fishing houses and facilities, incorporates local materials and seamlessly integrates with the surrounding mountainous landscape. The museum features a unique structure with a dedicated viewpoint, offering visitors stunning vistas while celebrating the region's aquatic heritage.
